Welcome back, this is the second part of my 2022 look back and the next 6 months are just as depressing as the first. I can’t believe it has been this bad, and I have not mentioned the increase in inflation and interest rates etc… the global price of food increasing. I did not realise what a hard year it had been. Below are the months July through to December, well today, obviously if something major happens on the 31st (tomorrow), I will have to add it at a later date.
July
3rd – Carlos Sainz wins the British Grand Prix.
5th – The UK’s Government goes into a downward spiral with ministers resigning and the cabinate has to be reformed.
6th – The members of the new UK Government Cabinate all resign. (I am not sure what actually happened here, I just remember a lot of resignations)
6th – The UEFA Womens Euro (Football) begins with England hosting.
7th – Boris Johnson announces his resignation.
9th – The Conservative Leadership Contest begins but the winner will not be announced until September.
11th – An extreme weather warning is issued in the UK, with temperatures expected to reach 32 °C.
13th -Railway workers refuse pay deal/reforms and anounce a 24hr strike for the 27th July, begining intermitent strikes for the rest of year and possibly into 2023.
13th – The MET office issues another warning for extreme heat with temperatures expected to hit 36 °C in parts of the UK over the next few days.
18th – The hottest temperature of the year in the UK was recorded as 38.1 °C (100.6 °F) only to be beaten the following day
19th – The hottest UK temperature ever recorded – 40.3 °C
19th – A major incident is declared in London, as firefighters battle grass fires.
25th – Due to the on going invasion in the Ukraine, it is announced that the UK will host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023.
28th – The Common Wealth Games begin in Birmingham
31st – The Lionesses (England) win the UEFA Womens Euro beating Germany in the final, 2 -1.

August
8th – Australia ends The Common Wealth Games with the most medals with England coming second.
8th – Singer and actress, Dame Olivia Newton-John dies aged 73. Olivia will always be Sandy, in Grease for me.
9th – Illustrator and author Raymond Briggs dies aged 88. Raymond will probably be best remembered for his creation The Snowman.
10th – Martin Lewis warns about the soaring energy costs, and predicts a cost of living crisis in the UK.
12th – Director and Producer, Wolfgang Petersen dies, aged 81. His movies include Neverending Story, The Perfect Storm and Fight Club.
12th – Novelist Salman Rushdie is stabbed multiple times as he is about to give a public lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York, United States
22nd – 9 year old, Olivia Pratt-Korbel is shot dead in her home, after a mistaken shooting.
29th – The Notting Hill Carnival is held for the first time in 3 years, due to the Covid Pandemic.
30th – Eurostar announces it is to suspend train services between London and Disneyland Paris from 5 June 2023 to concentrate on its core routes
September
6th – Liz Truss is announced as Priminister of the UK.
8th – Queen Elizabeth II dies aged, 96, at Balmoral Castle
10th – Historic ceremonies are held at St James Palace, and the Royal Exchange announcing King Charles III.
11th – The Queens coffin travels from Balmoral to Edinburgh, to lie in state at Holyroodhouse
13th – The Queens coffin is transported to London, Buckingham Palace.
14th – The Queens coffin is transported from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall ready for her lying in state.

16th – Protests erupt in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the country’s “morality police”
17th – The Queens grandchildren hold vigil around the Queens coffin.
19th – Queen Elizabeth II state funeral is held.
21st – Following a major counteroffensive by Ukraine in the east of the country, Putin announces a partial mobilisation of Russia and threatens nuclear retaliation, saying “this is not a bluff”
22nd – Author of The Wolf Hall trilogy, Dame Hilary Mantel dies, aged 70.
23rd – Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, holds a mini budget and recieves a huge backlash.
28th – US Rapper, Coolio, dies aged 59. Best known to me for his hit song, Gangsters Paradise.
October
11th – Dame Angela Lansbury dies, aged 96. The voice of Mrs Potts, and always remembered as Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote.
14th – Kwasi Kwarteng is replaced as Chancellor by Jeremy Hunt.
19th – Liz Truss announces her resignation as Prime Minister. Shortest Prime Minister in UK history, with her term only amounting to 45 days.
24th – Rishi Sunak becomes the new Prime Minister of the UK.
28th – The first televised sentencing of a murder trial in the UK held at the Old Bailey.
28th – Elon Musk buys Twitter.
November
1st – Matt Hancock former Health Secretary is suspended after joining the cast of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!
6th to 18th – The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), is held in Egypt.
15th – The World Population reaches 8 Billion
20th to 18th December – FIFA World Cup is held in Qatar
30th – 600,000 of the approximately 1.3 million free range turkeys in the UK are reported to have died or been culled, due to bird flu.
30th – Christine McVie, singer and songwriter from Fleetwood Mac, dies aged 79.
December
10th – 10 people are killed in an explosion on Jersey.
11th – Four young boys die after falling through ice into a lake in Solihol, Birmingham.
18th – Argentina wins the World Cup.
25th – The first Christmas Day speech from King Charles III is aired.
29th – Pele, Brazil’s football legend dies aged, 81.
29th – Fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood dies aged 82.
30th – British-American influencer Andrew Tate is arrested in Romania on charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organised crime group.
Music
As It Was – Harry Styles – was 9 weeks at number one making it the best selling single of 2022.
Running Up That Hill – Kate Bush, was the surprise hit of the year, after being featured on Stranger Things Season 4.
Food Aid – Ladbaby – Ladbaby made it 5 years in a row for Christmas number one, with their single featuring Martin Lewis.
Movies
Belfast – was the highest grossing UK movie at the box office in 2022. It was closely followed by Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Belfast – also won Best Picture at the Golden Globes
CODA – Won Best Picture at the Academy Awards
Will Smith won Best Actor for King Richard. Then ruined his Oscar win by slapping Chris Rock, after Chris made a joke about his wife.
