My theme for the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is – Places I Have Been. After some contemplation I decided to limit it to Places I Have been in the UK, this is because I have been to far more places in the UK and have very limited experience of places outside of the UK. I hope you enjoy my post.

LINCOLN
We visited Lincoln in 2019 and had a great day there. There is a lot to see, a castle, a cathedral and a very, very steep hill called the Steep Hill, are just a few things.

I never actually got to go inside Lincoln Cathedral because on the day we were there, work was being carried out so it was closed to visitors. As you can see by the photo above there was scaffolding up. On another visit I might get to have a peek inside. Apparently, Lincoln Cathedral was the tallest building in the world between the 1300 – 1500’s, since then it has survived both an earthquake and fire. It is a very impressive and beautiful building.

In a number of places around Lincoln you will see a funny little creature in various places. There is even one carved into the Cathedral but sadly I could not see that one. I did find the one above, and a few others. This is the Lincoln Imp. The Lincoln Imp is said to be a naughty little creature who caused havoc around the local area. Apparently, he went to far one day and was turned into the stone creature you see on the Cathedral.

With an average incline of 16.12°, The Steep Hill, is apparently the fourth steepest hill in England and to be honest, walking up it takes some stamina. If you can still see clearly as you make your way up the hill, it is a very pretty street. The cobbled stone road and yellow brick buildings make the walk worth it. There is a wonky lamppost about half way up and you do get some lovely views to, as you get your breath back sitting on the mayors seat. At the top of the hill is Bailgate which is the historic area of Lincoln, where both the Cathedral and Castle are located. There are also some really beautiful buildings, which are shops or places to eat.

Lincoln Castle was build by William the Conqueror and was one of the most powerful strongholds in medieval England. You will need to buy a ticket if you want to go inside the castle but from what I remember around the grounds there was no admission fee. It is worth a peek inside if you get time. There is a vault where a copy of the Magna Carta is on display. You can also walk around the castle walls, which provides you with some stunning views of the city and the surrounding countryside.
As previously mentioned, we only had the opportunity to spend the day there, and it was not possible to see everything. I hope I get the opportunity to visit it again one day.
Thank you for reading x
