My theme for the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is – Places I Have Been. After some contemplation I decided to limit it to Places I Have been in the UK, this is because I have been to far more places in the UK and have very limited experience of places outside of the UK. I hope you enjoy my post.

Queens Jewels

I really struggled to find something for Q, so I went with the Queens Jewels. Technically they are the Crown Jewels but when I saw them Her Majesty was still with us, so in my opinion this counts…. lol!

My photo of the Tower of London

The Crown Jewels are located in the Tower of London and they are on display for the general public. We visited the Tower of London about 5 years ago, and I have no photos of the Jewels so I am guessing no photos are allowed of the display. Obviously there are guards around and everything is behind a screen, so I am not to sure how great the photos would be anyway. Seeing the Crown Jewels was an experience, it was nice to see them in person.

However, there is more to the Tower of London than just the Crown Jewels. Hundreds of years worth of history has taken place there. The Tower of London is still a royal residence even though none of the monarchy reside there anymore. The photo above shows the White Tower, there are various items on display in there now, but that is where some notable historical figures once lay their heads. A number of years ago while they were renovating the Tower, they discovered the bones of a child. It was considered to be one of the young Princes who it was believed Richard III had locked in the Tower. A second skeleton was found and they were put in a casket together. Recently King Charles has given the go ahead for the skeletons to be tested to see if they belong to the young princes.

Traitors Gate

One of the sites you can see at the Tower is Traitors Gate. Various prisoners have been transferred to the Tower via those gates, including royalty. Elizabeth I entered through those gates when she was held captive by her half sister Mary I.

Graffiti at the Tower

Being a Prisoner in the Tower there was not a lot to do, so, some of the prisoners engraved things into the walls, which is still on display today.

Thank you for reading x
