My theme for the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is – Places I Have Been. After some contemplation I decided to limit it to Places I Have been in the UK, this is because I have been to far more places in the UK and have very limited experience of places outside of the UK. I hope you enjoy my post.

Rock

There are lots of different types of ‘Rock’ in the UK. There are some beautiful rock formations, caves, fossils but one of the most famous types of rock in the UK, is Blackpool Rock. Now you want find Blackpool Rock in caves, Blackpool Rock is hard candy stick, which is made from sugar and is a sure fire why to destroy your teeth.
The reason why Blackpool Rock is so famous, is because it was the first seaside resort to sell the hard candy. An enterprising young man in 1887, named Ben Bullock had the idea to produce this confectionery after a holiday to Blackpool. He created this candy with lettering running through it, and sent his first batch for sale in Blackpool where it was widely received. Today of course you can buy Rock in any seaside resort in the UK and in a variety of flavours.

Blackpool is located on the North West coast and has been a popular seaside holiday resort since the 19th Century. It gained in popularity when in Blackpool Tower was built in 1894.
I have been to Blackpool a few times in the past but my last visit was over 20 years ago, so I am sure there are lots of different things to see and do there now. Now when I was younger we went for the amusement park and spent a lot of time in there screaming on ‘The Big One’ rollercoaster. I loved all the rides and different amusements there. In the winter months Blackpool have illuminations. The Golden Mile which is along the promenade gets full of cars after dusk, travelling slowly while wide eyed children watch the lights.
One of the big attractions in Blackpool is Blackpool Tower. I have never been up Blackpool Tower, when I was younger I had no interest and when I was a bit older, the last time I went, it was closed. Up the top of the tower, is a magnificent ballroom, which now features on Strictly Come Dancing each year in the UK. Maybe I will go to Blackpool again in the future and make it up the top of the tower next time.
